Your First 48 Hours
in Dahab

Stop researching. Here is exactly what to do when you land to settle in, get connected, and find the rhythm without stress.

The Short Answer

For the perfect start in Dahab: withdraw cash at the airport or in Mashraba (ATMs are reliable), buy a local Vodafone or WE SIM card for data, and spend your first sunset walking the Lighthouse promenade. Don't book all your trips on day one—Dahab rewards a slow pace.

The Check-in Ritual

1. Get Connected

Buy a SIM card (Vodafone or WE) at Sharm airport or the official shops in Dahab (Asalah/Mashraba).Tip: Hotel Wi-Fi is often too slow for video calls. A 10GB data package costs less than $10.

2. Cash is King

Dahab runs on cash. ATMs are plentiful (NBE, CIB, QNB) in Lighthouse and Mashraba.Expectation: Withdraw EGP. Dollars/Euros are accepted for hotels/diving, but everyday life (taxis, groceries) needs Pounds.

3. The First Swim

Head to Lighthouse Reef. It’s the easiest entry (sandy/rocky mix) and perfectly safe for a solo dip to wash off the travel fatigue.

4. The Sunset Promenade

Walk from the Lighthouse towards Mashraba as the sun goes down (around 5-6 PM). This is when Dahab wakes up.

5. What NOT to do

Do not book your entire week's itinerary on the first night. You will meet people, hear about hidden spots, and want flexibility. Slow down. The desert isn't going anywhere.

Decision Guide

Where should you stay?

Masbat is for social energy. Assalah is for local quiet. The Lagoon is for windsurfers. Choosing the wrong zone can change your whole trip.
