Answer

Money, Cash & Tipping

How much cash to carry, ATM expectations, and tipping without awkwardness.

The Short Answer

Dahab is a cash-first culture. ATMs are plentiful, but many local shops and restaurants prefer Egyptian Pounds (EGP). Tipping is appreciated but should be natural.

While larger hotels and some dive centers accept cards, you will need cash for almost everything else. ATMs are found throughout the Lighthouse, Mashraba, and Assalah areas. Tipping (baksheesh) is a part of life but don't overthink it — 10% in restaurants is standard.
